ECU Police Alerting Rec Center Members Of Thefts

Thieves are having a field day inside the East Carolina University Rec Center and police say they're doing all they can to find the person or persons responsible.

There are 21,000 members registered at the ECU Rec Center, not counting guests who sign, but among them are some using the center as their personal playground for stealing.

There are lockers available for gym-goers to store their personal belongings, but police say some are not securing them with locks. So thieves just look for open lockers and steal the items inside.

Officers say cubbies on the exercise floor don't have doors and are open to thieves as well. Rental locks and lockers are available to help secure belongings, but they say it's up to the members to actually use them.

There are surveillance cameras around the rec center, except for locker rooms, in order to determine who is stealing from members.
