ECU Falls At Home To UAB

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Jamarr Sanders scored 26 points as UAB rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half to defeat East Carolina 66-59 Monday night.

The Blazers (12-4, 2-1 Conference USA) beat East Carolina (9-8, 1-2) for the sixth time in a row and the 10th time in the last 11 meetings.

A team that has played better in second halves all season, UAB trailed by 12 with 16:19 to play as Erin Straughn's 3-pointer made it 39-27. But UAB went on a 22-10 run over the next 9:11 to tie the score 49-49, with Sanders scoring 10.

After the final tie at 52-52, the Blazers went on an 8-0 run that put the Pirates away. Sanders' layup with 2:30 to play made it 60-52, and East Carolina came no closer than three points after that.

Cameron Moore added 16 points for the Blazers and Aaron Johnson had 10.

Jamar Abrams and Jontae Sherrod had 16 points each for East Carolina.

@aAnonymous the 1992-93 mens team at ecu had a losing record overall they just won 3 straight games to win the woeful colonial so even though they qualified for the ncaas by winning the caa they still stunk it up and lost way more than they won , try again

By some miracle Lebo does do something good with this team, he will flee to a major college.

Hardhittingtruth: To answer your question, ECU mens last winning season and NCAA appearence was 1992-93 when they lost to UNC in the first round by 18-20 pts. Not too bad considering the Heels won the NC that year and were loaded with talent that ECU will never have in hoops.

@Josh, I agree and if Lebo has a winning season at ECU,he will prove later on somewhere else what a truly great coach he is! It is very difficult for ECU to get good recruits much less great ones. As far as the AP reporting SC instead of NC it is natural for AP to go toward the larger market, it is all about tv markets in college ball! G-ville sc is a better tv and media market because you are near charlotte and Atlanta! G-ville NC is near nothing ,Raleigh has 3 teams! The AP calling it SC is a good example why ECU will never be in a bcs conference! Good luck Lebo your going to need it! Has ECU had a winning mens basketball season in 40 years?

Until ECU wins some games they won't get much respect. Just look at the first part of the story. The AP reported the game took place in Greenville,SC.
