Tuition could be going up at East Carolina University after a unanimous vote today by the Board of Trustees.

The board voted to recommend across the board tuition hikes for the 2013-14 academic year.

In-state undergraduates would pay 5.35% ($201) more, while out-of-state undergrads would see a 2.85% ($500) hike. Similar increases are proposed for graduate students as well.

The proposal now heads to the UNC Board of Governors and eventually the state legislature.

ECU says the increase is expected to produce $5.9 million in additional revenue to pay for classroom instruction and infrastructure support.

Increases to student fees were also approved at the meeting. There would be a $40 increase to the education and technology fee, a $30 athletics fee increase and a $3 increase in graduation fees.
