The excitement for the Pirate football season has led to higher season ticket sales for the eighth year in a row. For the first time though, ECU has sold 20,000 season tickets prior to their first game.
Students lined up at 12:00 p.m. to get their tickets for the first game of the year. Season ticket holders have put in the call for theirs as well.
The East Carolina Ticket Office says the excitement over the inaugural season as new members of the American Athletic Conference is one reason for high sales, along with a special message from Head Football Coach Ruffin McNeill.
"It never hurts to have Coach Ruff send a personal invite," says Associate Athletic Director Shelley Binegar. "So when I went to ask and I had to see, he was like, 'An E-vite?' Yes, this is an electronic invitation and he was like, 'I'm all in, whatever will help.' So he's so great to work with on stuff like that."
As of Thursday night, tickets were still available for Saturday's game. ECU expects a high volume of walk-up ticket buyers the day of.
