Duplin Co. Teen Drowns In Fishing Accident

A Duplin County teenager drowned over the weekend in a fishing accident in neighboring Sampson County.

Perry Bennett died as he and another teen were fishing in a boat on the Black River near Harrells. Deputies say shortly after 10:00 a.m. Bennette fell overboard and his friend tried to save him. The 15-year-old may have suffered a seizure, which may have caused him to fall overboard and drown.

The accident happened in part of the river that is about 15 feet deep, just off Belvin Maynard Road. Bennett's body was recovered around 4:45 p.m. some 40 yards from where he was fishing. Deputies say no foul play is suspected.

I do not think it was his time to go not that way. God did not take his life the Satan did.

My father in law had a heart attack this past Christmas while hunting with my husband (his oldest son) my husband did CPR with the help of another hunting buddy until rescue personnel arrived. After getting to the hospital and learning of his fathers passing he beat himself up thinking he could have done more. His Father wasn't only his dad he was also his best friend. After speaking with a friend who was also a pastor he came to terms and realized that God takes us when he is ready and nothing we can do can stop that. So to the friend of the young man and his parents first I offer my condolences and second I offer you peace knowing that the lord has a greater plan for your son and friend. May your memories bring your heart peace.

It is really easy for folks to make comments about life jackets, but the news does not always tell the the actual story. It was not the water that took him from us, it was the seizure. There will be alot of the should of's, the should have's... but what this family needs is words of encouragement and prayers. Folks need to realize, that when GOD says it is your time to leave this world that we call home, it doesn't matter what kind of protective gear we are wearing, he is going to call us home! Perry you will be greatly missed in our community. Love you forever!
