An Air Quality Alert is in effect for most communities across eastern North Carolina along and south of Highway 264. A light easterly winds will send smoke westward from Dare County across much of the area through Thursday afternoon. Otherwise, we'll see lot of sunshine and highs in the 70s on Thursday. A wind shift to the southeast will send smoke north of the area by Friday afternoon. Showers over the weekend should dent the dry conditions and help alleviate fire conditions.
