A drug suspect is also facing animal cruelty charges after deputies say they found mistreated dogs on his property Thursday.
Halifax County deputies executed a search warrant at a home on Lee Lane Road in Roanoke Rapids and arrested Harry Watson. Narcotic agents say they found 59 Oxycodone and 3 Xanax pills during the raid. They also found eight dogs on the property that had no food or clean drinking water.
Animal control seized the dogs and Watson was charged with possession of schedule IV narcotics, possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II narcotics, maintaining a dwelling to store narcotics and eight counts of cruelty to animals.
The 51-year-old man was jailed on a $23,000 bond.
