A cool front will push off the North Carolina coast early Wednesday allowing drier and slightly cooler air to move into the area. Afternoon highs will hit the lower to middle 90s but relative humidity levels will lower significantly. The heat index is likely to stay below 100° for the first time in several days. Skies will be mostly sunny with a light northerly wind. Seasonably hot temperatures will stick around at the end of the week. There will be an increasing threat for showers and thunderstorms by Friday and the weekend.
