A dive team found a live mortar in a Wayne County swamp and now lawmen are trying to discover how it got there.
Deputies say their dive team was conducting an underwater article search at a swamp in the area of Napoleon Road outside of Fremont. Deputy James Cornell recovered the live 81 mm round around 9:00 a.m.
The Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit at Seymour Johnson was called and destroyed the mortar with a C4 explosion.
