Detention Officer Charged With Assaulting Daughter

A Pitt County detention officer has ended up on the other side of the law, accused of assaulting her daughter.

Court records show Tamika Sneed of Winterville is charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury.

She was arrested February 2nd, and the arrest warrant says she gave her daughter a black eye, bruised nose and a severe hemorrhage in the left eye.

A Sheriff's Office spokeswoman says Sneed has worked as a detention officer for the past three years and has never had any other disciplinary problems. The spokeswoman says they conducted an internal investigation, and pending the outcome of Sneed's court case, the woman continues to work at the detention center.

Sneed was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond and has a March 29th court date.

Raising children can be very difficult but to injure a child during the course of disipline is considered child abuse whether intentional or accidental. the Child probably needed discipline but to cause a black eye and a hematoma seems like to me somebody went to far and maybe lost control. I wonder what the Dept of Social Services is doing about this...Probably nothing as usual....sounds like the family might need some help...I am sure those folks at DSS will be glad to step right in provided it was reported to DSS.

WITN needs to do a report on all the ones who have been let go for less than this. There is a lot more to this department.

If she does this to her own child then wonder what she does to an inmate when nobody is around

Teenagers can get out of hand -its happened in all days and times. This is a parent that was disciplining her child- Maybe the child was doing something completely wrong- maybe she was preventing the child from harm- Dont Know- Dont Judge- Im sure there have been times that many of us has wanted or has had to take action on our children- Let them handle there own household and I and all else handle there. I can see different if the child was injured and was hospitolized that abuse! There is a difference! If you dont see that then u must be unreasonable.

Some have been let go for minor things that should not have and others have been let go for major things that were breaking the law... but we only hear about what they choose to report... Others are simply kept quiet and swept under the rug...
