Deputies: Man Sets His Own House On Fire After Fight

A man set his own house on fire after he got into a fight with the other people that lived with him according to the Halifax county Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to a residence on Sneed Road in Enfield in reference to a suspicious fire Friday.

Deputies believe 18-year-old Stephon Garris intentionally set the fire.

They say Stephon had gotten into a fight with the other people he lived with and when they left the home he then set the house on fire and left and went to a family members house.

Garris is charged with 2nd degree arson.

His bond was set at $10,000 and his court date is January 19, 2011.

Mouse, The problem is that the house is probably not "HIS" meaning he either owe's the bank for the house or rents it from someone else. Even burning a house that you own free and clear requires permits and inspections. This is why the fire departments do not generally burn houses down anymore as part of their training.

To Mouse, 'his own house' may refer to the fact that he lived there just like the victims of his arson rather than him owning the property. Not to mention, it appears he destroyed the belongings of other people and put lives in danger. Namely, the lives of the people who had to take care of his malicious act.

I doubt an 18 y/o guy was the owner of "his own" house. It was probably a rental.

Mouse... I agree with you. It's his property, his house, he can burn it down if he wants.... as long as he's not trying to collect insurance money. The other people living there probably wouldn't leave... guess now they have no excuse not too. LOL

Why was he arressted? If it is his property he can do whatever he pleases, even if it is burning his home to the ground? Right?
