Declaration Of Independence Read At Tryon Palace

It was a step back in time as the Tryon Palace in New Bern celebrated the first Independence Day.

Families lined the palace grounds while the Declaration of Independence was read on the palace steps. The Drum Corps also performed for the crowd, which enjoyed the celebration for free.

Matt hales was among those at the festivities. He says he's glad to share part of history with his son. "I hope people can take notes from this and continue to look back at where we've come from and and kind of take that to where we'll go in the future as a country."

This is just one of the free events the palace is evaluating as they figure out how to make up their million dollar cut from the state this year

I went to this today, it was nice and I really enjoyed the Drum and Fife band. Albeit blazing hot. Oh, and the crowd really booed when they read out the part about being over-taxed and under-represented...

That old pesky rag? I thought the liberals had already abolished that archaic thing back when Obama was elected. I guess someone in the government still has sense, although I'm not sure who it could be.

Harvard Univ. recently released a study suggesting most July 4th events are the domain of fiercely patriotic GOP types, and went on to say that Democrats probably shouldn't even bother mingling with them. As far as the reading of the Declaration of Independence, that's wonderful, but you just know many liberals fret anytime it or the Constitution is read or studied. Yep, that U.S. Constitution really gets in their 'political' way far to often. It's why they rely on the courts to get their way as often as possible, hoping to circumvent the will of the people. Good to hear that the Tryon Palace budget has been necessarily cut. The Palace will do just fine without the taxpayer excess.
