It's officials, Pungo District Hospital is now part of University Health Systems. Paperwork on the changeover was signed this morning at the Belhaven hospital.
In separate votes last week, the UHS board and the Pungo trustees each okayed the change of ownership that starts at midnight tonight.
University Health Systems will pay off Pungo's long-term debt. It will also invest $2 million in upgrading information technology and another $500,000 in capital improvements at the hospital.
UHS now owns or operates 10 hospitals in Eastern Carolina.
