The family of a teenager killed while crossing a dangerous intersection in the east has learned that intersection will finally get some much needed upgrades.
The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a contract to install crosswalks on Western Boulevard and Country Club Road in Jacksonville. That's near the same location where 16-year-old Talissa Hatchell was run over and killed while crossing the road back in 2009.
Richard Hatchell - the grandfather of Talissa- said he's happy to see something is being done to protect pedestrians.
Work can begin as early as April 11 and be completed by November 18th.
