Dare County To Hold Wildfire Meeting

Some personnel will take a break from the front lines of the Pains Bay wildfire to hold a public meeting on their progress in fighting the blaze.

The event will take place Thursday night at the Stumpy Point Community Center at 6:30 p.m.

The fire has been burning for over a month and has burned nearly 45,000 acres of Dare County. Fire crews have the wildfire 75 percent contained.

OK happy ill try to be nice but I work for the forest service and spent almost the whole month of may on that fire. We only make time and a half overtime on anything over 40 hours for the week! And thats because it is a federal fire! If it were on state land we wouldnt make a dime! So if anything it will make us want to work longer and harder to get over our 40 hours quicker so we CAN make some money! Maybe next time you start flappin those jaws maybe you should do a little research so you dont sound so ignorant!

Happy - I don't know who told you that "NC Forestry Service" gets paid triple time on fires - but they told you WRONG. The majority of the time they get "comp-time" and no paid overtime on 99% of the fires they fight. Foresters don't get OT like time and a half, etc. - they get 1hr paid for 1hr worked only on reimbursable fires, all other times is 1 hr comptime for 1hr worked regardless of if you work 100hrs in a week or 50 hrs in a week. It really irritates me that you believe "they" are milking the fire - far from it boss man! The sacrifices that "they" have made on this fire and every other fire "they" have fought to protect people, homes and timberland should be commended and you should be ashamed of yourself.

What they don't tell you is that the employees of the NC Forestry Service gets paid triple time when fighting fires. They have no incentive only personal gain to keep this fire going. It makes you wonder or not why the state is going broke. These NC Forestry Service employees are just milking the state for money. It is my wish that such misuse of the system is brought to the attention of our policy makers. Know you know the truth and yes it hurts

Because keeping the public informed is more important than actually fighting the fire. Let these men do ther jobs and concentate on getting this fire under controll instead of having to hold a press conference.
