LAWMEN: More Victims Finger "Career Criminal"

More victims have come forward against a man that Pitt County deputies say is a career criminal who preys on people through his construction company.

Anthony Cannon of Greenville is charged with seven more felony counts and three more misdemeanor charges involving fraud and obtaining money.

Deputies say the new victims came forward after news stories first aired in early April on his arrest.

In September 2010 the Pitt County Sheriff's Office began investigating Cannon for defrauding people and companies. The investigation revealed a history of fraud, usually carried out through his self-employed construction business.

In the new cases lawmen say Cannon would purchase items with worthless checks, promised construction work that was never completed and rented construction equipment with the victim's money and never returned the equipment.

If anyone suspects that they may have been a victim of Cannon, they should call the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office at 252-902-2773.

I lived in grifton this dude is a straight con man all you will hear is this type of fraud from him. But a lot of time he would hire us guys who were less priviledged than others get them to work for him and never pay them. He deserves to be in prison.

Any career criminal can forge a small business license. What the state needs to come up with is an 800 number that automatically verifies the company and whether or not the person claiming to be the owner is really the owner.

When oh when will something be done to put these type of people out of business. It's high time some sort of basic license requirment be put on such small operators such that it's much harder for them to operate like this. If one does not have that one simple license, then move on to another contractor that does. What is so darn hard about making this happen. Where is our local, state and federal government when they are needed. People need such protection!

This guy is a sleezeball. A word to Pitt county Sheriff....if you investigate in Grifton you are highly likely to uncover several more ties to coverup businesses than you first anticipated...... Put his butt on highway litter pickup this summer along Highway 95.....
