DEPUTIES: Bar's Permits Seized After Owner Sold Them Oxycontin Pills

A La Grange bar had its alcohol permits seized and the owner arrested for allegedly selling Oxycontin pills to undercover deputies.

Ruth Thompson is charged with two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance, two counts of selling a controlled substance, two counts of delivering a controlled substance and two counts of maintaining an establishment for keeping and selling of controlled substances.

Lenoir County deputies say they twice bought the pain pills from Thompson this week at the Blue Ribbon Bar on Highway 70. During a voluntary search, deputies say they found even more Oxycontin pills, some marijuana and a .38 caliber special handgun. ALE agents seized the bar's alcohol permits.

The 29-year-old was jailed on a $50,000 secured bond.

The news was wrong. I actually spoke personally to the ALE agent who was familiar with this case, as well as an attorney for the NC ABC Commission. The permits were NOT revoked. That is per ALE- they told me the news was not accurate. The ABC Commission had no record of this and had not even been notified by law enforcement. I'm not sure why it was reported in the news this way, but I personally spoke to the people and they told me the bar was free to operate as usual as of right now. Sad isn't it?

Um...if ppl aren't leaving their names, how on earth would you know what they are guilty/not guilty of? Since you have no idea who is posting what? So it is ok for you to point the finger at ppl you know nothing about and say they are 'guilty of a lot worse than what Beth did' but it is NOT okay for those same ppl to point the finger at this individual? What's the difference? I happen to know Beth very well and if I want to post my opinion, that's my business. No I'm not going to leave my name because personally, I don't want my name associated in all this mess. It has nothing to do with whether or not I am "proud" enough to leave my name. Why is it "childish" to say that someone selling OxyContin to someone who is not prescribed it is wrong? Oxycontin is a very powerful medication only prescribed by individuals who have been to years of medical school. It is obviously not a good idea for an individual without that education to give it for use for another. Duh.

Come on now. I am surprised she didn't get caught before this. She was always letting under age patrons in her bar. Shame on her for that, and shame on the parents who accompanied their children to such an establishment.
