Deputies said a fight between a boyfriend and girlfriend ended with the woman shot in the head while her seven-year-old son was in the car with her.
Detectives with the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said they were called to Sedum Lane, near Roanoake Rapids, around 6 p.m. Wednesday night for a woman shot in the head.
Investigators said they learned the woman had been in an argument with her boyfriend, got her seven-year-old son in the car, and tried to leave.
That is when deputies said 30-year-old Joshua Arrington fired, hitting the mother in her head.
The mother, whose name has not yet been released, was the one who called 911, according to deputies.
Investigators said the boy was not hurt, but the mother was taken to an undisclosed medical facility for treatment. She has since been released from the hospital and deputies say she is resting at home.
Halifax County deputies arrested Arrington Wednesday night, charging him with two counts of attempted murder, discharging a weapon into occupied property, and injury to personal property. He was put in jail and not granted bond.
Arrington's bond hearing and court date is set for December 4th.
