New information on a burglary suspect shot by a homeowner. The man is now facing charges in the case.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office says they arrested and charged 26-year-old Todd Brogden of Dudley with breaking and entering, larceny, and possession of stolen goods and burglary tools.
Deputies say Brogden broke into a storage building behind Paige Ham's home on Providence Church Road last Thursday. We're told Brogden ran out toward Ham, and in fear of her life she shot him in the chest.
After his release from the hospital, Brogden was jailed under a $20,000 bond.
Deputies say a man was shot after he broke into a woman's storage building early this morning.
Wayne County deputies say Christopher Brogden is in stable condition at Vidant Medical Center after the 4:30 a.m. shooting.
Paige Ham told deputies heard a noise in the back of her home on Providence Church Road, and looked out the back window to see the lock was missing from her storage building. The woman had her roommate call 911, and she got her gun to see if anything had been taken.
Deputies say as the 28-year-old woman was approaching the building, Brogden ran out toward her. Being in fear for her life, Ham, fired the weapon, hitting Brodgen in the upper chest.
Deputies say the woman will not be charged in the shooting, while Brogden will be charged with the break-in.
