The possibility of slick roads has Department of Transportation crews busy working to make the morning drive is safe.
In Pitt County, crews were out Wednesday preparing roads just in case there's some winter weather early Thursday morning.
Workers have been putting down a brine solution, which is basically salt water. The brine is used as a pre-treatment in case there is some snow or ice. But according to Pitt County maintenance engineer Jeff Cabaniss, because it is expected to be so cold overnight the brine may not work as efficiently as they want it to early in the morning--and if there is winter weather it may cause some problems on the roads.
DOT officials say they will be out preparing the roads overnight and into the morning as much as they are needed.
