Credit Unions Offering Advance Pay If Shutdown Happens

Two credit unions that cater to the military population here in Eastern Carolina say they'll cover the upcoming payroll if the government shutdown happens.

According to the Department of Defense, if the shutdown is enacted, active and reserve military members will get paid for time prior to the shutdown, that's approximately half of their normal mid-month payment. They will not be paid for duty performed after the shutdown, until additional legislation is enacted.

Navy Federal says it will cover the April 15th payroll for those members on active duty who have direct deposit with them. Navy Federal says civilian DOD workers who are paid through DFAS and have direct deposit will also receive advance pay for that payday.

Marine Federal says it too plans to cover next Friday's payroll for military members with direct deposit. For other government payrolls, Marine Federal says it will keep their members posted if the situation continues.

Could Bush have kept the Iraq and Afghanistan wars going if the sons and daughters of Wall Street bankers were being sent in harm's way because they got an unlucky number in the draft? I very much doubt it.This is all the politicians, bankers and Wall Street financial fat cats care about care about: $$$$$$$. They take are of themselves first s it says below: "Boehner Paid as Soldiers Wait If Government Shuts Down "

I think they are all stupid and we need to clean house. If they want to balance the budget cut their salaries by ten percent straight across the board. Then we need to eliminate the welfare dead beats. Stop paying people to breed! Take away welfare recipients right to vote until they get a job!

I cannot believe our country would ever come to this. I am ashamed to live in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Please us men and women of the armed services put your lives on the line, while your wives and babies starve back home. America is broke and will soon be overtaken by another super power, because the soldiers will be to disgusted to fight for their own country. Watch and wait, it will happen.

Our military customers know their credit is good AT NO INTEREST.

To hold back pay from those who are fighting and giving their lives for us is cold, heartless and just plain unpatriotic. I've become completely disgusted with our President and Congress. I don't care what party you are.

I have a nephew in the Army and one in the Marines. I am so proud of both of them as all that serve in any branch of the armed forces. Regardless of what happens, there should absolutely be no holding back in their pay. Thank you Marine and Navy Credit Unions for stepping up to our most treasured family members

I'm sure our president doesn't have to worry about his paycheck though, or his cabinet etc. Our military should NOT have to worry about getting paid. What has this country come to? Kudos to those 2 banks who are offering their help.
