Two credit unions that cater to the military population here in Eastern Carolina say they'll cover the upcoming payroll if the government shutdown happens.
According to the Department of Defense, if the shutdown is enacted, active and reserve military members will get paid for time prior to the shutdown, that's approximately half of their normal mid-month payment. They will not be paid for duty performed after the shutdown, until additional legislation is enacted.
Navy Federal says it will cover the April 15th payroll for those members on active duty who have direct deposit with them. Navy Federal says civilian DOD workers who are paid through DFAS and have direct deposit will also receive advance pay for that payday.
Marine Federal says it too plans to cover next Friday's payroll for military members with direct deposit. For other government payrolls, Marine Federal says it will keep their members posted if the situation continues.
