A habitual felon is going to prison for a long time after police say he attempted to hide drugs from authorities by eating them.
Taalib Mufiyd, 51-years-old of Vanceboro, was convicted after police say he attempted to swallow 15 small bags of cocaine.
It happened when he was stopped by police on a moped because his passenger wasn't wearing a helmet.
When police approached Mufiyd to speak with him they say he started trying to swallow the drugs.
In another case police say Mufiyd threw two bags of cocaine out of his car window as he approached a license checkpoint.
According to officials, Mufiyd has a long enough criminal record for authorities to sentence him has a habitual felon. He was sentenced to 9 to 11 years in prison.
