Landfill Workers Fired After Arrest For Using County Credit Card To Buy Their Own Gas

Two county landfill workers, who were arrested last week for using a county credit card to buy gasoline for themselves, have been fired.

James Carter and Garrett Taylor, both employees of the Pitt County Waste Department, were arrested last Thursday by the Pitt County Sheriff's Office.

The two were charged with obtaining property by false pretense and financial transaction card fraud.

A county spokeswoman says official letters went out Friday telling the two they were no longer had a job.

The Sheriff's Office says the alleged fraud happened September 29th and their investigation began after questionable gas receipts turned up at the Waste Department.

Carter and Taylor both were released on $5,000 bonds and are still on the job with the county.
