Crews have been working on the Highway 58 bridge to Emerald Isle since December and are on track to have it finished by Memorial Day weekend.
The project is intended to extend the life of the bridge for a few more decades, but it didn't come without a cost. During construction, the bridge was often down to one lane, causing backups to get on and off the island.
Homeowner Tim Dale says, "It's really important because Memorial weekend is a big weekend here, it will be really good for both lanes to be open all the time."
The DOT says the project is on track to meet its Memorial Day weekend deadline.
Crews sill have to install some grooves in the concrete bridge decking and install new pavement markings.
