The chairman of the Edgecombe County Board of Commissioners was among the 10 people charged after a raid of illegal gambling operations last weekend.
The North Carolina Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement says 73-year-old Leonard Wiggins was charged with a misdemeanor violation after the raids at two homes in Raleigh and one in Wendell.
Agents say Wiggins and three other people played a game of chance at which money was bet at the house in Wendell. One agent says the buy-in at the poker game ranged from $1,000 to $5,000 that night.
There was no answer Friday at a home number listed in Wiggins' name.
