College Student Charged With Failing To Register As Sex Offender

A local college student is in trouble with the law for failing to register as a sex offender.

Marcus Mitchell of Washington is charged with two counts to failure to register as a sex offender and carrying a concealed weapon.

Deputies say on Tuesday while investigating a break-in, they spotted a suspicious truck parked on the shoulder of the road. They learned the man, who told them he was a student at Beaufort Community College, lived in Beaufort County but was a registered sex offender in Hertford County.

They found two knives on the man.

The 29-year-old was charged for not changing his residence to Beaufort County and for failing to notify them he was attending BCCC.

Mitchell was place in jail on a $5,000 bond.
