Cold Case Unit Solves Second Homicide

Rocky Mount's Cold Case Unit has solved another homicide since it was formed a year and a half ago.

Police say Travis Ricks was charged this morning with second degree murder for the July 2009 death of Charles Creech. The 46-year-old Creech was found in the middle of Columbia Avenue on July 11, 2009. He died later at Pitt County Memorial Hospital from blunt force trauma to the head.

The 23-year-old Ricks was already in the Nash County jail on unrelated charges. Court records show Ricks has multiple pending breaking & entering and larceny charges in Nash and Pitt counties.

In January the Cold Case Unit solved the 2008 homicide of Marcella Hunter that occurred on Williford Street.
