Coast Guard, Marines Help Injured Woman

A Coast Guard rescue boat crew and a Marine Corps rescue helicopter crew responded to a report of an injured woman aboard a 24-foot pleasure craft 11 miles off New River Inlet, Onslow County on Tuesday.

The Coast Guard received a report of a 42-year-old woman who had injured herself during a fall when a wave hit the boat she was on. The woman reportedly had no feeling from the waist down.

A Marine Corps HH-46E Sea Knight helicopter crew from Cherry Point was launched to the scene while a rescue boat crew was dispatched. The rescue boat crew reached the woman at 10:19 a.m. and stabilized her. The helicopter lifted the injured woman aboard and transported her to Onslow County Memorial Hospital.

The woman's identity and condition have not been released.
