The Coast Guard and a good Samaritan are to thank for the rescue of 3 people who ended up in the Pamlico Sound near after their boat capsized Sunday near Avon.
Coast Guard officials say they were notified around 4:48 p.m. by the boat’s operator who said that he and a passenger were clinging to the overturned boat, while one other person was floating in the water.
A 25-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet and an MH-60 Jayhawk crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City were dispatched.
Rescuers arrived on scene around 6:09 p.m. and rescued the man who was in the water holding onto a buoyant boat seat. A good Samaritan rescued the 2 remaining boaters.
No injuries were reported.
