A coast guard ship that calls Eastern Carolina home now has a new man in charge.
The Coast Guard Cutter Elm was there to help when a replica of the HMS Bounty sank off our coast, during both Hurricane Irene and Sandy.
For the past three years, Lt. Commander Mark Palmer led his crew aboard the ship.
On Wednesday, a formal ceremony at Coast Guard Station Fort Macon welcomed a new man to the helm, Lt. Commander Robert Gomez. Gomez is originally from Jacksonville.
The Cutter Elm and her crew are primarily responsible for aid to navigation from New Jersey to South Carolina. They also do search and rescue, law enforcement, and spilled oil recovery.
