City Council Approves Trolley & Pedicab Businesses For Greenville

One city in the east is now a hub for all types of transportation services.

Greenville City Council gave the go ahead Thursday night on new transportation services they say will enhance the community.

The Jolly Trolley along with rickshaws will be common sights in Greenville. The past few months the business have been trying to get rolling and that was finalized Thursday night at the city council meeting. For East Carolian pedicab owner Matthew White its a service that doesn't compete with taxis.

"We stay in the university area. Our main clientele is students. That's who we appeal to. Most of the people we appeal to weren't going to take a taxi cab in the first place."

Both new companies are up and operating after Thursday's meeting. This was their last step in getting their franchises approved by the city.

ECPedicab is a fantastic idea for the Pirate Nation! Students are helping students. . .For the most part, students can't afford a taxi. ECP seems to be a very responsible, inexpensive, relatively safe way to get people around campus. I'm so glad that the City Council decided to move forward in allowing ECPedicab to return. Change is GOOD. Keep up the good work, ECPedidcabbies!

The Cab system in Greenville is the biggest scam of all time and no one will do anything about it. I have tried working with City officials, councilmen, and police about putting in a meter system. There response is that there are pros and cons to both systems and they haven't had enough complaints to warrant looking at changing. Currently it is a zone system and the pricing map isn't even posted on the city's website! Having a reliable cab system is an important part in cleaning up downtown Greenville because the kind of people you want downtown won't come if they can't get a ride home. WITN or someone needs to bring this issue to light!!!!

Pedicabs - They'll give you a ride and molest your kids for one low price. It's a really great package deal.

I think "pedicab" and trolleys are geat for Greenville - plus it creates jobs!! There going to have to hire more people to clean up the streets after a few of these things get squashed! Its not even safe to drive a car in Greenville!

Cabs in Greenville don't have meters. I took one ONCE from the airport to my home 6 miles away. They zapped me for 20 bucks. WITN should investigate this practice of ripping people off.

I don't know about rickshaws, but 'cabs' DO have meters - maintained, set, and locked by official agencies. Don't scream about it if you haven't worked in the industry. Cabbies GET ripped off constantly.
