Church Holds Services, Despite Recent Fire

Jamesville Christian Church members did not let a recent fire stop them from having their service Sunday.

Services were held Sunday at the only section of the church left untouched by a fire that investigators say was caused by a lightning strike back on Monday.

The intensity of that fire melted the siding off of surrounding buildings and ripped through the sanctuary, leaving only the brick portion left standing.

Pastor of the church, Doug Stokes, told WITN Sunday, "Our people are coping very well. I think it was a heart-breaking thing to see our sanctuary burn. People have worshiped in this place since 1951. Everybody in Jamesville, not just our church, but when something happens they come together, they support one another and you can see now it’s already a crowd. I have a feeling that this place will be packed today and it’s going to be a special service for us."

No word yet on when the church will begin to rebuild.
