Child Hit On Bicycle

A child on a bicycle was hit by a car in Greenville Monday, thankfully she was not seriously injured.

The accident happened around 11:00 a.m. on 10th street in front of Copper Beach Townhomes.

Police say the bicyclist was crossing the street when the back wheel got hit by the vehicle that was headed east.

The child did not have to go to the hospital.

Police say the driver slammed on the brakes but there was nothing he could do to avoid hitting the child.

The driver does not face any charges.

I think it might help if people in this city weren't complete jerks. Yes, Greenville is easily the rudest and most disrespectul city I've ever lived in and that goes double for motorists attitudes towards cyclist. Can't wait to move. It's not safe on the roads here.

Why was a child riding a bicycle on 10th St. why was she alone? Where was the parent? Shouldnt this be considered neglect? An unsupervised minor riding on a buisy street.

Yes it's neglect, and unfortunately the "parent" (I use the term loosely) will not be charged. Probably just another state sponsored child...

I don't think stop lights are the only solution but they would help some but a safer crossing area... either a tunnel or overhead crosswalk... People are all the time standing in the turn lane trying to cross.... I am glad the little girl was alright....

That stretch of road needs two sets of traffic lights installed. One in front of Bojangles and the other at Copper Beach.
