Cherry Point Harriers Conduct More Libyan Strikes

Cherry Point Harriers conducted more attacks in Libya over the weekend, targeting tanks and armored personnel carriers near Misratah.

The strikes happened Saturday and Sunday from the Harriers which are on the USS Kearsarge.

The Harriers are part of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, which is made up of Marines from Camp Lejeune, Cherry Point and New River.

The 26th MEU says the 2,000 member ground force remains on the Kearsage, and would not be put on Libyan soil. The MEU says a small group of Marines did land last week to rescue a downed Air Force pilot, east of Benghazi.

The 22nd MEU is leaving this week for the Mediterranean Sea to relieve the 26th.
