Carteret County Shelter Fails Inspection, Making Changes To Stay Open

The Humane Society of Carteret County failed a state inspection. The state inspector gave the shelter 45 days to start making changes. Rusted cages and doors , a leaking roof and peeling paint are just some things they have to fix. So far, they've started cleaning up things and replacing some items. Donations have been pouring in but officials say work still needs to be done

"Word of mouth gets out people start trying to come out and help you know, and that's all it takes you know just some community involvement," said shelter manager Candace Christopherson.

The inspector will do another walk through March 25th. You can drop off donations at the shelter. Officials say plans are to get as much done this weekend as they can.

We might be one of the poorest counties in NC but there are a lot of folks with tons of money that could easily make a big difference if they chose to do so. PLEASE CHOOSE TO DO SO! I was out there with my kids this week and they really need financial donations to get the problems fixed.

I don't suppose it occurred to any of those big bad inspectors what happens if the place is forced to close. Maybe they could take all the unwanted critters home with them. Yeah, right..... Another fine example of your tax dollars at work.

Good luck guys. Thank you for all you do. Also thank you to all of those who don't look the other way and donate to our causes. You are all unselfish people with big hearts. If only all persons were like this.

Come on everyone if you are an animal lover now is the TIME TO HELP OUR ANIMALS SPEAK OUT. I adopted my cat from this shelter 13 years ago and my parents have adopted their dog of 4 years from this shelter. What will we do without them to help save our four legged friends!!! Please, please, please help reach out to this shelter, I know I am, but we need everyone possible to help out before it is too too late which would break all of our hearts to see. Just try!!!!!
