Car Collides With Tree, Kills One

A Wayne County man was killed in a single car accident Saturday morning.

N.C. Highway Patrol officials say Jorge Delgado Marquez, 22, of 2344 Antioch Road in Pikeville, died when his vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree.

Marquez and a passenger were traveling east on U.S. 264 near the Nash and Wilson County line around 5:30 a.m. Officials say it was raining when Marquez's 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac ran off the road to the right, colliding head-on with a tree.

Officials do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the accident.

The passenger was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. There is no word yet on the victim's identity or condition.
