Cape Hatteras Beaches Will Have Lifeguards This Summer

The unofficial start to summer is just around the corner and some beachgoers won't have to worry that lifeguards won't be at some of their favorite beaches.

The National Park Service had previously announced they would not be able to hire lifeguards for Coquina Beach, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Beach and Ocracoke day use area because of budgetary constraints.

The NPS now says with help from Republican 3rd District Congressman Walter Jones, they were able to reallocate NPS money and supplement it with stop-gap funding from Hyde County and the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau in order to provide the service.

The beaches will be staffed with lifeguards from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, seven days a week, from Saturday, May 24 through Monday, September 1.
