Busy Four Corners Intersection In Sneads Ferry To Get Upgrade

A problem intersection in Sneads Ferry could get a lot worse before it gets better.

The place where N.C. 210 and N.C. 172 meet in Sneads Ferry is better known as four corners. It is also known for causing huge back ups during morning and evening rush hours, and during the tourist filled summertime.

The NCDOT will begin a 1.7 million-dollar project at the intersection to help traffic move along.

While it sounds like a great plan for the future, for the time being, locals are worried the construction will make things worse.

Theresa Mitchell owns a business in Sneads Ferry and says, "In the fall months I'm sure it will have a huge effect getting the kids to and from schools. As far as the businesses go, there are side roads to get around. I feel as far as the businesses, they'll probably be ok. Now next summer with the tourism coming, that's going to be a huge problem because there is going to be too much congestion here."

Construction is expected to begin in October and should be completed a year later.

Work includes an extra turn lane on N.C. 210, a new lane on N.C. 172, and an upgrade to the traffic signal there.
