There is hope for people sad to see part of the Bogue Inlet Pier at Emerald Isle collapsed during Hurricane Irene.
Mike Stanley, who owns the pier says, they plan to rebuild.
"We will hopefully be able to rebuild it quickly provided we can get through all of the red tape associated with coastal construction," posts Mike Stanley on the pier's website.
Stanley says 200 feet of the pier collapsed, just past the 5th shelter. The fish cleaning table at the end is gone.
Photos that viewers put on Carolina Camera at witn.com show a considerable chunk of the end of the pier collapsed into the ocean early Saturday morning as Irene approached the shore.
Business owners told WITN earlier this week they feared the pier might collapse and the economic impact that would have on the area.
This pier was saved a few years ago from being closed down in order to develop the area. People from across the area and the state signed a petition to protect the pier.
