Boating Accident Injures Two

The Coast Guard says two people were injured when a charter vessel ran aground Sunday afternoon along the Outer Banks near Nags Head.

The 55-foot charter vessel named Outer Limits went aground near the
Walter Slough Channel. The Coast Guard received the call at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Officials say a good Samaritan was the first to respond the Outer Limits, which took four people to Dare County EMS at the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center. Two people were then transported to the Outer Banks Hospital. It's not clear how severe the injuries were.

The Coast Guard says Sea Tow freed the charter vessel. The Coast Guard crew escorted the charter vessel to the Oregon Inlet Fishery Center.

There were no reports of damage to the charter vessel or signs of pollution.

Blame should fall in the proper location. Whomever is responsible for channel marker location and dredging is to blame for this accident. That area of the channel last weekend was equivalent to a one lane road with interstate traffic without painted lines. Captains option easily could have been run over a 20ft skiff or run aground. Not a good outcome either way!! Why are unsafe roads or waterways in this case hazards and individuals caught in these situations automatically deemed negligent??? How soon will it be before a goverment official promises to have the channel in perfect condition when it should have been right all along. Silly me, won't here from anyone with the government unless someone is hurt bad and then only to speak about how the boat captain made an error instead of a crummy job by the caretaker of the navigable waters. A lot of people that use that inlet know the truth! Prayers for the injured.
