A 28 year old Oregon Inlet man is safe today following his rescue by the Coast Guard near the Bonner Bridge near Nags Head.
People spotted the man on top of his capsized vessel, waving his arms for help, around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. Dispatchers contacted the Coast Guard, which sent a boat from the station at Oregon Inlet. The crew from Response Boat - Small arrived within 15 minutes, the Coast Guard says, and rescued the man from the water. The boater was taken to Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet to meet emergency personnel. He was not injured.
"Thanks to the quick actions and attentiveness of another boater in the area and close coordination between Dare County 911 and the Coast Guard, we were able to quickly resolve a very dangerous situation," said Lt. Kevin Sullivan, the search and rescue mission coordinator at Sector North Carolina. "This is a good opportunity to remind boaters to maintain a sharp lookout, as you never know when you may contribute to saving a life."
