Bill Filed To Stop Kinston Annexation

A state lawmaker in Lenoir County has filed a bill to try to accomplish quickly what some residents in his area have been trying to do with a lawsuit. State Representative Stephen LaRoque of Lenoir County has filed a bill to repeal the annexation of three subdivisions into the City of Kinston.

Kinston's City Council voted in 2009 to annex the 492 residential acres that include Crestview, Briarwood and Silver Creek. The vote came despite protests from the residents, who sued. The lawsuit has prevented the annexation from taking place so far.

House Bill 5 has been referred to the Finance Committee. We'll keep you posted on whether it passes the legislature and goes to the Governor.
