Bertie County School Bus Accident

Highway Patrol troopers say the accident happened Saturday at 7:22 a.m. on NC 45 off Jeff White Road near Colerain.

They say the school bus driver, Augustus Holley, tried to slow down when the car in front off him slowed down, he went left of center, then went into a ditch.

Troopers say there were six children from the Bertie County school system on the bus when the accident happened.

Lawmen say, even though no injuries were reported, the children were transported to Bertie Memorial Hospital as a precaution.

Troopers say Holley will be charged with driving left of center.

I am so happy the driver was an experienced and excellent driver. Due to his driving skills and quick thinking(not hitting the car in front of him), he was able to keep the children safe. I wish we had more drivers like him!

It looks as if many has observed this driver make mistakes. and founf it in there duty to report it. It seems that everyone filing complaints felt it was not the best interest to continue there complaints of this driver which is still driving. Better yet..Why don't all the complainers rally to have other people from the county they are associated with apply for bus liscense. Better yet...why don't the complainers go through the bus driving process and become bus drivers themselves. Then there will be no more bus accidents. People grow up. Accidents sometimes happen. You should be happy no child was hurt. Oh! By the way. No one thought of that..

This comment is for the person who stated that they should have taken his license. You needs to be careful of what they say. You shouldnt say things about other people that are not ture. Im sure you drive everyday with danger seen and unseen so just be careful with ur comments because the Bible says " TOUCH NOT MY ANOINTED AND DO MY PROPHET NO HARM"

Why doesn't the school board put the Superintendent on the bus to drive. She may could do that because she certainly can't seem to run a school system. Driving a bus would be the perfect job for her.

It’s so expected that people would have a lot of negative comments to say. I’m so glad SOME PEOPLE are PERFECT and never has any misfortunes. There’s a bigger picture than just saying negative comments such as the well being of the people that were involved. Bertie County Board of Education has openings for bus drivers for all that are concerned as to why he is still driving.

Glad the kids are ok, but when will this end? This is not the first time this driver has had an accident with the bus putting lives in danger. Something needs to be done and soon, before a minor accident turns into a deadly one!!!

I as well as other parents that I've talked to have expressed our concern about this bus driver and we have all been told the same thing. There aren't enough drivers so he's allowed to continue to drive. This isn't his first accident so I guest it won't be of upmost concern until some kids seriously get hurt. Why wait ?

WITN,research this bus drivers driving history and you will see that he has had SEVERAL accidents with the bus and has been allowed to continue to drive.Knocking down mailboxes, running into vehicles etc.He shouldn't be driving in his state of health but that doesn't seem to matter.

I have been behind this bus occasionally and have even called the school to report his careless driving(another principal) and was told she would talk to him about it.
