Beaufort County Schools Redraw District Lines

The Department of Justice is now reviewing Beaufort County's proposed new school districts.

The Beaufort County School Board voted 5-4 to select alternative one as they work to redraw school district lines following the 2010 census. School leaders are trying to equalize the number of people within each school district, which is out of balance, according to the new census numbers.

The federal government will take 60 days to review the proposed maps. Upon approval, the Beaufort County School System plans to have the redistricting complete by February, when candidates for school board file for the next election.

Since BCS didn't make ayp, you can send students to any school in long as principal accepts them..the redistricting is more about school board members...not school district lines.

I think the redrawing has more to do with what districts an elected official comes from and less where a kid goes to school. No way are they going to allow kids from say WHichards Beach Road go to Washington High School. Not like we have 20 elementary schools in the county.

Not to mention schools aren't making EOG's and allowing students to select the school they would like to go to. I know a few people who use other addresses so their kids can go to the school they want.

What's wrong with that? If you can get your child to and from the school of your choice without affecting bus routes then so be it!!!

Wasted money and time, Washington school will always continue to get the students it wants. District lines mean nothing. Northside and Southside High School will always loose students that Washington H.S. wants or needs to better themselves. All it takes is a family member in a different district, change address and bam-a-lam you have a new student in a new district. And with most everyone around here related some way or another, its not that hard to do.
