Woman Who Escaped Sheriff Custody Captured

Lawmen in Pitt County found a woman who escaped police custody this afternoon in Greenville.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says Kelley Teel managed to get out of a sheriff's transport vehicle at the corner of 5th Street and Moye Boulevard when the cruiser was stopped for a red light. Deputies say the woman escaped out of the back window, which was partially open.

Teel was found several hours later at the Microtel on Moye Boulevard after a search by both deputies and Greenville police.

Deputies say Teel was picked up yesterday for an involuntary commitment to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Deputies say the woman was being transported to a facility in Ahoskie when the escape happened.

She or he probably got a promotion under the current leadership if they state a person of this type with problems as noted did not have handcuffs or leg chains on. These items are not considered punishment as they may just help the patient keep from injuring themselves which was highly likable in a situation when they go out of a vehicle through the window whether it is moving or not!!!! Law Enforcement in Pitt County must remember we are to protect not only the citizen but human life for all. She was not a criminal but a sick person who not only could hurt someone else but herself also!!!!! Mr. Elks please look at your policies and make sure they comply with not only common sense but moral sense.

Come on and give Sheriff Elks' a break... I think his spokeswoman, Christy Wallace could give you a good explanation on why this happened.. If not, her husband, Kevin Wallace, Office Director \ Chief and Campaign Manager can, he must know something since he gets paid 72K a year from the taxpayers of this county... I'm just sayin...

i sat at a stop light next to a patrol car a few months ago. the officer was on her cellphone giggling like a school girl and had her facebook page up on her PD-issued laptop. i never felt safer or more proud of our PD. i hoped the sheriff's office had their act together, but i guess not. way to go!
