FIRST ON WITN: New Bern Police Arrest Suspected Gunman

Police cars converged on one New Bern neighborhood this afternoon, searching for a gunman, whom they arrested about a half hour later.

It started about 1:20 p.m. after police were called to Lawson Street, off of Walt Bellamy Drive, for a report of shots fired.

Police closed off those two streets, while a vehicle was seen with its back windows shot out. Police say no one was injured in the shooting.

Did the gun owner say why the gun fired? Was it his gun? Was he a convicted felon? Was he defending himself, scaring off a would be assailant or thief?

So what is Trent Court is three blocks for there? Trent Court is three blocks from a lot of places. You need to worry about getting the guns off the streets, then you wouldn't have to worry about living three blocks from anywhere.

Sad but true. Too bad the NAACP does nothing about the crime problems in their own neighborhood. They won't even mention it.

I use to live 2 blocks from there (I rent out the house now). I'm so glad I moved. There were gunshots at night every weekend (esp. Sat night) coming from that same direction. I won't hide the truth here, this is a 90% black area (Trent Court is 3 blocks away) and the crime in this area has always eminated from there. Pembroke, Craven Terrace and Trent Court. Ask the NBPD, they'll tell you.
