NEW INFO: Pitt County Man Crushed Under Fallen Vehicle

A man who was working on a mini-van this afternoon was crushed to death after the vehicle fell on him.

It happened around 12:20 p.m. at a home mobile park on Brown Place Drive, that's off Highway 33 near the airport.

Deputies say it appears a jack gave way on the front of the mini-van, causing it to fall. Afterward, EMS workers placed wheel chocks behind the rear wheels to secure the vehicle.

Deputies identify the man as Michael Harris.

The 44-year-old Harris died at the scene and deputies say it appears to be an accident.

witn and channel 12 were on scene and sitting directly across the street only minutes after this happened. The family did not even have time to get over the initial shock before the news stations had cameras on the house. Great job WITN and 12 a complete lack of respect but you got the story. Prayers go out to the family.

Everyone that had a scanner or pager knew about it. Google the address and you can see the house and get the directions.

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? How would you feel Witn and Channel 12 if your family member was lying in the front yard dead and the media intentionally positioned their cameras to film as much of the body as possible? I guess sensationlism is more important than respect for a grieving family.
