Arrest Made In Elkin Ridge Murder

A man wanted for a Greenville homicide has been arrested in Atlanta, Georgia.

Hysuan Daniels was arrested Wednesday by U.S. Marshals.

Daniels was wanted for the December 1st shooting death of Malcolm Washington. Police say Daniels and Washington went to a duplex on Elkin Ridge Road that night with the intentions of robbing a man.

During the robbery Washington was shot once in the back and ultimately collapsed in the front yard of 4104 Elkin Ridge. Daniels is also charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Daniels is in jail in Atlanta awaiting his return to Greenville to face charges.

On Friday Greenville police said Daniels was wanted on the attempted robbery charge, and then today reported he was also wanted on the murder count.

Washington was one of four men killed with a three week period in Greenville. Two of those murders remain unsolved.

Greenville police have released the name of a man murdered last night in what they say was likely a drug-related murder. It's the third murder in the city in two weeks.

They say Malcolm Washington of Greenville was shot in the 4000 block of Elkin Ridge Drive around 10:00 p.m. Thursday night during an apparent robbery attempt.

Police say the 25-year-old man and at least one other man went to the duplex to rob the person who lived there. During that attempt Washington was shot once in the back and ended up collapsing in the front yard of 4104 Elkin Ridge Drive.

The homeowner there thought a man was having a seizure and called for EMS. Washington died at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Police say it appears the robbery was drug related and that there's nothing to indicate the intended robbery victim was involved in the shooting. At this point no one has been charged with Washington's murder.

Washington has a previous criminal record. He was last in prison in 2010 on a drug charge. Other convictions include receiving stolen vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle, and possessing stolen property.

On November 17th Leroy Staton was killed in what police say was also a drug related murder at Jaycee Park. Then three days later Michael Burgwardt was found dead in an office he used at Summer Place Apartments.

No one has been arrested in any of the murders. Washington's death brings to six the number of murders in Greenville for 2011, surpassing last year's total of five.

Greenville police are investigating a homicide late last night, but so far they have released little information on the case.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. on Elkin Ridge Drive. WITN News has confirmed one person was killed and authorities say there is a homicide investigation underway.

One homeowner says the dead man collapsed at his front door last night, while the actual shooting happened up the street.

Dispatchers say they received a call around 10:35 p.m. regarding shots fired in the neighborhood.

Elkin Ridge Drive is a cul-de-sac off of Portertown Road, and is made up of duplexes.

Deputy Chief Joe Bartlett told reporters that they are investigating a death at Elkin Ridge Drive, but would not give any details saying it might hinder their investigation.

A news release says Greenville police responded to a report of an assault in the area of Elkin Ridge Drive. When officers arrived they found Greenville Fire/Rescue caring for unknown individual.

Police say the victim was transported to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where he later died. Police are withholding the name of the victim.
