NEW INFO: Former ECU Quarterback Arrested

A former East Carolina University quarterback is facing charges after police in Roanoke Rapids arrested him today.

Patrick Pinkney was charged by police on eight counts of larceny by employee. Police say Pinkney was an assistant manager at the Belk Department Store in Roanoke Rapids and say he is accused of stealing nearly $4,200 from the business.

Detectives say they started investigating the possible embezzlement back in September. Pinkney is accused of stealing money from Belk on eight different occasions since February. Police say the former quarterback began working at the store in May 2010.

Pinkney was the starting quarterback for ECU from 2007 to 2009 and is fourth on East Carolina's all-time career passing list behind David Garrard, James Pinkney, and Marcus Crandell.

Pinkney was released on a $4500 unsecured bond and has a December 14th court date.

So my question is why does the news always focus on the bad things that former and current ECU athletes do with their lives? Why not show some of the good things that are going on? For example what David Garrard has done for single mothers that have breast cancer. I guess that a story about a successful athlete doing something nice for woman and their families going through a terrible illness just isn't juicy enough for you. This is what ticks me off about the media, focus on something positive for once!!

Everybody has their own opinion and everyone makes mistakes; this situation doesn't mean Patrick didn't deserve a scholarship because he earned that off of his talent; people are so quick to judge and don't know the situation; yes it was wrong but his life isn't over and I'm still and always will be a fan; Patrick Pinkney has made great accomplishments and deserves credit for every last one of them

The thing here is that these are high profile students making bad decisions, it has nothing to do with the uni itself, morals and ethics are taught before. There are many of us that graduated who have gone on to do good and great things w/o legal probs, don't lump us all together. Were they not athletes you wouldn't have heard a word about it, nor would ECU be in the title of the article.

WITN please do not post anything else out of ECU that has anything to do with sports of anytype. We all know alot of people get to go to colleges because they can dribble a basketball; throw a football; hit a baseball; etc. but poor ECU sport students only get reported on because of all of their unlawful activities. Enough is enough and it appears that before Thanksgiving you will have some more news on some of their former and/or current sports stars. Wonder how many that have been caught so far were their on scholarships?????

I would be afraid to be put on trial in Eastern NC. Everyone makes up their mind on guilt or innosence based on accusations. Have we so quickly forgoten about the Duke Lacrosse players.

Ol' Blue Eyes can't seem to write a coherent sentence. "Innosence"? Ever heard of a question-mark to end a sentence when appropriate, "Frank"? Maybe you should learn to write the language of our people before posting accusations against our intellectual prowess. Just a suggestion from here in America and not Hoboken, NJ. Did they not teach you the English language in Hoboken, Frank?
