UPDATE: One Person Injured In Pitt County Plane Crash

One person was hospitalized with minor injuries after a plane crash in Pitt County Saturday afternoon. A second person involved was not hospitalized.

The Highway Patrol says the 170-B Cessna went down off County Home Road between Winterville and Ayden around 2 p.m.

The pilot, Alford Highsmith, and his co-pilot, Shane Caison, had just taken off from the South Oaks Aerodrome when they say the plane banked to the right and then it suddenly went down.

Sgt. Crane says Highsmith was transported to Vidant Medical Center with a cut to his face. Caison did not request to be transported. The plane sustained damage, but not to too extensive, according to Crane.

The NTSB or FAA is expected to investigate the crash.

According to Pitt County dispatchers local Fire and EMS crews are at the scene of a plane crash.

They were called to County Home Road near the South Oaks Airport in Winterville around 2 p.m.
